This year, Xterior Solutions partnered with Owens Corning to offer a free asphalt roof installation to a First Responder in need — someone who has made a lasting impact on their community.
One name stood out not just because of what he asked for, but because of everything he’s given. We’re honored to announce that Andrew Schlageter, a volunteer firefighter, active paramedic, and devoted father from Red Hook, NY, is the winner of our 2025 Roof Giveaway.
A Lifetime of Service, A Heart for Helping
Andrew’s life has been defined by selfless service. For more than 30 years, he has answered the call — whether it’s a 2 a.m. fire alarm or a life-threatening emergency roadside.
5 years volunteering with the Red Hook Fire Department
10 years with the Roosevelt Fire Department
Over a decade with NDP EMS as an EMT and Paramedic
His story began at just 16 years old, when he first stepped into the world of emergency services — and he’s never looked back. Since then, Andrew has run toward danger so others could find safety, bringing comfort and life-saving care when it mattered most.
And like so many first responders, he has done it all without asking for anything in return.
A Hero in Need of Help
Andrew and his wife purchased their family home just before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was meant to be their forever home — a safe place for their three children.
But as the years passed, the roof began to fail. Leaks appeared, the structure grew vulnerable, and as a single-income household, the cost of a replacement was out of reach.
In his application, Andrew shared:
“I love to help people in need and don’t normally like asking for help — but today I sit here asking.”
His words are a reminder that even those who spend their lives serving others sometimes need support themselves.

Andrew’s application reflected more than just a need — it showed a life of unwavering dedication, quiet courage, and tireless compassion. He has sacrificed holidays, sleep, and time with his family to be there for others.
We are proud to provide Andrew and his family with a brand-new Owens Corning asphalt roof, fully installed by the Xterior Solutions team — with the care and quality every hero deserves.
Looking Ahead: A Safer Home for the Schlageter Family
With construction beginning soon, Andrew’s home will finally be protected from the elements — no more leaks, no more patchwork, and no more worry.
We hope this new roof offers not only shelter, but also a renewed sense of security for Andrew, his wife, and their children — a well-earned gift for a life spent protecting others.
